Since 2008, Montana Tactical Firearms Instruction (MTFI) has been the trusted choice for top-tier firearms training in southwest Montana. Conveniently located just off I-90 in Three Forks, we’re only a short drive from Bozeman and surrounding areas.

Whether you're new to firearms or looking to sharpen advanced skills, we offer expert instruction tailored to your needs. From basic safety and handgun handling to Montana Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) certification—and all the way to advanced handgun, carbine, shotgun, and bolt-action rifle training—MTFI is your go-to resource for practical, real-world training.

Our Instructors

At MTFI, our instructors bring a wealth of experience from civilian, law enforcement, and military backgrounds—but we’re not a “high-speed, low-drag” military-style training outfit. Our specialty is helping everyday people become safe, confident, and competent shooters, whether you're brand new to firearms or looking to improve your skills.

We create a welcoming, respectful environment—no yelling, no intimidation, no egos. Many of our classes are specifically designed for women, and we’re proud to have female instructors on staff to support and guide you. With small class sizes and a low student-to-instructor ratio, you'll get the personal attention you need to grow.

At MTFI, our instructors are mentors and educators—not drill sergeants. Our focus is on safety, mindset, and building your skills the right way.

Our Facility

Our training facility is the most complete and accessible in the Gallatin Valley. With two fully equipped classrooms, an on-site range just steps from the door, and a well-stocked pro shop, everything you need is right here—no bus rides to public land or makeshift setups.

Because our classroom and range are co-located, we can seamlessly move between instruction and live-fire practice, reinforcing skills the moment you learn them. And with clean restrooms and a full kitchen available for your use, you’ll stay comfortable and focused throughout your training.

For those looking to advance their skills, MTFI offers a clear path toward proficiency and mastery. Our advanced courses are led by subject-matter experts and cover a wide range of disciplines—including carbine, bolt-action rifle, shotgun, and tactical or combat handgun techniques.

We’re also the only facility in the Gallatin Valley offering Interactive Video-Based Judgment Simulator Training—a cutting-edge tool for developing real-time decision-making under pressure.

In addition to firearms training, we provide essential courses on situational awareness, sexual assault prevention, non-lethal force options, and bear awareness and defense—perfect for hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and those looking to stay safe in any environment.
